In Hoorn you can find restaurants for every budget and with a wide variety of cuisines. Guests regularly ask me after a tour where to eat. Therefore I have made a small selection of restaurants in Hoorn.
I have divided the restaurants into three categories: (1) Historic Location, (2) Casual and Cozy and (3) Fine Dining in the Historic Harbor. The list of restaurants is not complete. In each of the mentioned restaurant I have been several times. They are my personal favorites, but for a variety of reasons. Sometimes because the food is really great, sometimes because of the cozy and casual atmosphere, sometimes because it just ‘fits’.
1. Where to eat at a historical site in Hoorn?
Hotel-Restaurant Ysbrandtsz

In 2020, this beautiful hotel – restaurant opened near the city’s main square. A real asset. Owners Marco and Laura have transformed the stately building into a beautiful place with a fantastic courtyard garden. With such a beautiful location comes excellent food. And they have succeeded in that too. Do not go here for a quick bite, but take the time to enjoy beautiful dishes in a beautiful setting! More info, click here!
Restaurant Ridderikhof

Located at the Rode Steen 9 (the central square of Hoorn) we find Restaurant-café Ridderikhof. A special restaurant with special staff in a particularly beautiful location. For larger groups there are separate rooms for ‘private dining’. As one of the few restaurants around this square also easily accessible by wheelchair. And because of the location they also have a great terrace in the summer!
Restaurant De Oude Waegh

Cozy lunch and drinks in the historic building De Oude Waegh. I recommend this restaurant mainly for its location and interior. The menu is not special, but you can eat for a reasonable price. You can also go here for breakfast. This is a very extensive breakfast for only 3 euros! From the terrace you can see all of Hoorn strolling by. Click here for more info.
Restaurant De Hoofdtoren

This restaurant is located in the most iconic monument of the city. The main hall is accessible via the original stone spiral staircase. Besides a great building, restaurant de Hoofdtoren also has the best terrace for a late dinner. Located on the west, you can dine in the sun until 10 pm in the summer. The restaurant has a wide menu, but my preference here are the fish dishes! More info, click here!
Tip: Dinner or lunch in combination with guided tour of Hoorn

If you come to Hoorn for lunch or dinner, combine it with a tour by Local Guide Hoorn / guide Alette. Local Guide Hoorn is valued by visitors and guests with five stars at Google and five stars at Tripadvisor!
You can choose from several tours or ask Alette to put together a tailor-made tour according to your preferences. During the tour you will see the most beautiful buildings, squares, streets and of course the old inner harbour. Alette will also tell you the stories of the city and its inhabitants. Nice to do for young and old, for small and large groups.
2. Restaurants Hoorn: Casual and Cozy
De Tuynkamer

A great cozy and fun place for lunch and dinner is the Tuynkamer. You’re never alone because all of Hoorn knows that it is a good place to be. Both for lunch and dinner it is advisable to make reservations! Their apple pie wins prizes almost every year. Dinner is available on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 17.30. Click for more info!
Goos

Cafe Goos is a small but cozy cafe-restaurant. If there is no table free you can also eat at the Bar. Besides some fixed dishes, they have a changing ‘weekly special’ every week. This is a restaurant where I like to come. It is important to make reservations because it is small but popular. Click here for more info!
Bij Meta (..and Mark!)

At Meta’s everyone really enjoys themselves. Not least because of Meta herself and her excellent team. The kitchen is somewhere between brasserie and restaurant. There is plenty of choice and Meta has an excellent wine list. Even at lunch time it’s already very crowded to get a table. So don’t forget to book in advance. For more info, click here!
Da Noi

The owners of ‘Da Noi’ both come from Sicily, and you can taste that. In 2021 they moved to a building on the Kerkplein, a location that suits them perfectly: lively and cozy. The men are sometimes a bit sloppy, but the quality of the food and the heartwarming hospitality will make you want to come back! Click here for more.
3. Restaurants Hoorn: Dining in the Historic Harbor
HAVN

In the place in the old harbour where star chef Lucas Rive used to cook, Robin Blauw is now in the kitchen. Robin has gained much inspiration during his travels to Mexico, the United States and Thailand. The international flavours he has tasted there, he combines in the menu for restaurant HAVN in his hometown Hoorn. More info: restauranthavn.nl
Marque

A special restaurant in a fantastic location on the Bierkade near the Appelhaven. You go to Marque for a full evening’s entertainment with special dishes and fantastic wines. It is a restaurant in the higher segment, but with a relaxed atmosphere and great service. My advice: always choose the ‘menu signature’! More info: marquerestaurant.nl
Hendrickje Stoffels

Cooking, always cooking. Chef Marko Pol even drones on about culinary matters. Even when he’s not behind the stove, it’s still bubbling away in his head. In their restaurant Hendrickje Stoffels, he and his hostess and partner Bianca Mens combine all ideals of taste and atmosphere. For reservations: https://hendrickje-stoffels.nl/
Brasserie Oostereiland

On the beautiful Oostereiland, the former prison has been converted into housing, hotel, brasserie, museum and film house. In this unique place you have a great view from the terrace over the harbor of Hoorn. On cold days you can also go inside. A favorite of many of my guests. More info: Brasserie Oostereiland
De Kade

This is really a wonderful place to sit on the terrace in sunny weather with a beautiful view of the Main Tower and the inner harbor. I like to sit here for a coffee or a drink with a snack, but you can of course also have lunch and dinner. A great place to start or end a city walk. More info: click here!
Café ‘t Schippershuis

A very traditional and very Dutch eatery. Father Abraham composed his hit “The little cafe at the harbor” here. No fuss, just a good café where you can get a nice steak or a satay for a good price. The regulars settle themselves on the terrace early in the afternoon and are happy to chat with you too. Do it!
