This statue is Skipper Willem IJsbrandtszoon Bontekoe. The statue stands in the old harbour of Hoorn. Bontekoe (1587-1657) lived in Hoorn and he is still known today for his report of a trip to the East Indies commissioned by the Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie (VOC). The news that was popular in the Dutch-speaking region was frequently republished. Do you want to see this statue? And of course hear the stories about him? Send me a message, and then we plan a pleasant city walk.
