Meet The Local Tour Hoorn
Foreign guests appreciate the special ‘Meet The Local Tour’. I will show you the most beautiful places of Hoorn during this tour. And especially for foreign guests, we also get to know contemporary culture and Dutch daily life. You will get acquainted with everyday Dutch customs and our peculiarities. What is typical Dutch local food? What does a Dutch House look like on the inside? Do they really pay tax in the Netherlands for keeping a dog?
Starting point of the Guided Tour
We start this tour on the Red Stone (Roode Steen), the central square in the old town. There I will tell you something about the history of the Netherlands and Hoorn. Then we walk through the old inner harbor towards the Bossu Houses, the East Gate (Oosterpoort) and along the old city walls.
Home visit – Meet the Local
By that time it is time for a short rest. We visit a typical Dutch house and can take a break. We drink coffee, tea or something else and get acquainted with some typical Dutch snacks. The house in question was built in 1926 by the architect Cramer. He built this house for himself at the time. The design is inspired by the ‘Amsterdam School – style’. It was completely renovated in 2011.
A church with houses and the orphanage
We continue our tour to the old civilian orphanage. There I share some special stories about the care of orphans in the 17th century. After the orphanage we walk back into the old centre via a number of smaller streets. Along the way we pass the old town hall and the Grote Kerk (Big Church) where a number of special apartments have been built. Back at the central square in the historic center we finish the tour.
